The theme for this week’s Top 5 Tuesday is Summertime Reads. (If you are unfamiliar with Top 5 Tuesday, head on over to Bionic Book Worm’s blog to find out more!) I was hesitant to even give this one a shot, to be honest. Last week I tried to write a similar post on my favorite summer reads, but I couldn’t think of a single one. I don’t know what you guys consider “summer reads,” but I always think of those tables at Barnes & Nobles advertising women’s fiction with beachy scenery on the front. I don’t read those kinds of books.
So, instead of discussing my favorite beachy-themed books, I’m going to share my Top 5 Sorta Summer Adventure Reads, because summer is a time for adventure, right?
Hounded by Kevin Hearne – Urban fantasy meets mythology. There’s a tattooed druid, swords, and a talking dog. Just trust me on this one.
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab – While I love all 3 books in the series, this one is probably my favorite. It’s filled with pirate adventures, magic, thievery, and all kinds of action.
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo – I don’t know if this is really an “adventure” book, but IT’S ABOUT SIRENS. If that won’t make you afraid to dive into the ocean this summer, then I don’t know what will.
(I’m totally making up all own rules as I go along here.)
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo – A master heist, bad ass male and female characters, secret powers, and politics. This one will keep you on the edge of your seat/bed/ass whatever.
Uprooted by Naomi Novik – Dark forests where evil lurks, a wizard named the Dragon, lines blurred between good and evil. This one is like a fairy tale for grown ups.
Does everyone feel nice and summery now? Who’s confused. I sure am! 😛
