First Impression Friday: Hounded by Kevin Hearne

It’s time for another First Impression Friday post! For those who are unfamiliar, FIF is a weekly meme created by J.W. Martin. The goal is to talk about a book you recently started reading. Share you impressions, predict what you think will happen, say whether you think you’ll enjoy it, etc.

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

This is my first read from author Kevin Hearne. Just reading the blurb on the back of the book made me go “Holy shit, this is going to be awesome.” Druids, Celtic gods, vampires, and tattooed Irishmen? Shut up and just take my money already.

I’ve barely started this one, but already I’m intrigued. The main character, given that he’s a Druid being hunted  by other immortal deities that mean him harm, seems like a pretty cool guy. I’d totally hang out with him, or flirt with him at a bar.

Other than what’s described in the blurb, I don’t know what to expect with this book, but I have a feeling that I’m going to really enjoy it.
