This is Halloween

I know I’ve already said this before, but…you guys…Halloween is coming! 😀 I’ve already started putting out decorations and have been working on my costumes since August. I’m so excited!

In honor of  this glorious and festive time of the year I feel like I need to put some Fall/Halloween themed entertainment into my repertoire this month. I’m typically not big on super scary things (because I’m a weenie), but I’ve still found plenty of books/shows over the years that appropriately fit the occasion.

These are a few of my favorites:

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – A little boy that grows up in a graveyard, raised by the ghosts that reside there. It doesn’t get more Halloween appropriate than that. (Side note: I have a slight obsession with cemeteries, especially old ones. This always feels like the perfect time of year to go traipsing among the headstones.)

The Nighmare Before Christmas (movie) – Like all of Tim Burton’s works, it’s perfectly weird. I still need to pull off a Sally costume at some point…

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling – Magic, a castle, dark wizards, ghosts, cauldrons, a dark creepy forest, trolls, goblins…Shall I continue? Whether it’s the books or the movies, Harry Potter always feels like a good Fall binge.

Stranger Things (tv show) – I discovered this on Netflix last year and I’m super stoked that the second season will be out soon! If you’re a fan of old 80’s sci-fi, or just the 80’s era in general, you should definitely give this one a watch.

American Horror Story (tv show) – Although it scared the daylights out of me the first time I watched it, the first season of AHS is pretty awesome and creeptastic.

Classic horror novels – Dracula, Frankenstein, Jekyll & Hyde, and anything by Poe.

Are you excited about Halloween? What are some of your favorite things to read or watch this time of year?

  1. Yes YES YES to The Nightmare Before Christmas! I actually watch that movie more around Christmas time but it’s nonetheless great for any time of year. My favorite part about this time of year is everyone coming together and the warmth and coziness that fills homes. 🙂

  2. I love the graveyard book! Well, I love everything neil gaiman writes. And I love that you have started decorating, my SO thinks I’m a bit crazy for decorating on the evening of 30 september every year. So I’m glad to see there’s like-minded people out there

  3. I love Halloween as well, every year I feel compelled to watch “Hocus Pocus” and “Monster House.” To me those two movies (yes, they are kid movies) are what tell me it’s the season for spookiness!
